Higher Education Evaluation & Accreditation Council of Taiwan (HEEACT) was authorized by the Ministry of Education (MOE) to conduct an English-instructed Programs Review last June. Four out of seven completely English-instructed degree programs at Ming Chuan were awarded the highest rating. Moreover, MCU was subsequently awarded a NT$9 million subsidy from the MOE, the highest amount throughout Taiwan. In 2010-11, 29 universities’ English-instructed Programs were reviewed, but only 12 institutions received a subsidy, including Ming Chuan University, National Taiwan University, National Chengchi University, National Tsing Hua University, National Chiao Tung University, National Yang Ming University, National Chung Hsing University, National Taiwan Ocean University, National Dong Hwa University, China Medical University, Kaohsiung Medical University, and Chinese Culture University. President Lee stated that Ming Chuan is the first university in Taiwan to use all English in teaching a complete degree program. And, the number of overseas students enrolled for degrees is the second highest in Taiwan. This evaluation helps to improve the prestige of International College and attract more students from all over the world. The programs receiving highest ratings in this evaluation are International College’s Graduate School of International Affairs, Applied Computing Program, and Travel and Tourism Program, along with the School of Management’s International Master’s program in Business Administration.
