【779】MCU Student Volunteers at Flora Expo

The Taipei 2010 International Flora Exposition opened on November 6, with 548 MCU students volunteering as the security patrols, expo guides and pavilion docents at the Exposition. This international event is the first of its kinds to be held in Taiwan. The operations division of the Flora Expo specially authorized Ming Chuan Service-Learning Section to recruit volunteers, because most of the park areas and pavilions are near the University's Taipei campus. After a series of training sessions, the students began their duties at the 171-day event. During the 1998 Deaflympics about 800 MCU students volunteered their services. Ming Chuan students were specially appreciated by the sponsor and the players from various countries praised them for their professional service. This season, students are excited to be taking part as volunteers at the Flora Expo. They hope the Ming Chuan volunteer team can help create more awareness about the Flora Exposition and also express the passion and benevolence of the Taiwanese people. Hosting such an event brings a lot of pride to the people of Taiwan. The event runs through April 25, 2011. Additional volunteers are welcomed to join! The flora expo demonstrates the full potential of Taiwan in the fields of floriculture expertise and technology. In addition to a visit to the Expo, package tours include visits to Maokong, the Beitou Hot Springs, the Dadaocheng Dock, and the National Palace Museum.
