Ming Chuan University Partners with NVIDIA and Dell to Establish a New AI Talent Hub

In response to the rapid transformation of university teaching and talent development driven by generative AI, Ming Chuan University (MCU) officially opened its NVIDIA AI Lab on October 1 on the fifth floor of the library at its Taipei campus. Established in partnership with NVIDIA and Dell, the lab provides an advanced environment for hands-on AI learning, featuring more than 30 high-performance computers equipped with GeForce RTX 5090 graphics cards—the largest number on any university campus in Taiwan. The facility gives faculty and students access to an industry-grade AI computing environment on campus.

MCU President Hsuan-Shih Lee said that, amid the rapid development of AI, the university has taken a systematic approach to investing in advanced graphics cards and computing equipment. Through the establishment of the NVIDIA AI Lab, MCU aims to provide students with a better environment for practical AI learning while enabling faculty to use the equipment for AI-related and industry-focused research.

Alex, Senior Associate Director at NVIDIA Taiwan, noted that AI is rapidly advancing from conversational applications and reasoning to agentic AI. Students will need to acquire new AI knowledge and master emerging workflows, particularly hybrid workflows that integrate local and cloud computing. He emphasized that now is a crucial time for universities to build AI computing capacity and hands-on learning environments. NVIDIA will work with MCU to develop courses that give students practical AI experience during their university studies, helping them build the ability to integrate local computing resources, cloud-based models and AI tools.

Alex further noted that MCU’s early investment in GeForce RTX 5090 equipment reflects its strategic approach to developing AI talent. As AI companies and application providers increasingly establish a presence in Beitou Shilin Technology Park, demand for talent and AI applications is expected to grow. NVIDIA looks forward to deepening its collaboration with MCU in talent development, teaching and research, and hopes the university will continue to expand its local computing capacity and connect it with large AI models.

To advance its environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals, MCU has adopted a shared computing model, centralizing advanced equipment for use across courses and colleges. This approach improves equipment utilization while reducing duplicate purchases and the risk of idle resources. Benny, Senior Deputy General Manager of Sales at Dell Technologies Taiwan, said that Dell continues to collaborate with NVIDIA on hardware development, computing applications and energy efficiency. He likened AI hardware to an engine or rocket, with knowledge serving as the fuel that propels it forward. The new AI Lab is expected to help students move beyond advanced computing resources and AI models to develop software applications and innovative ideas, strengthening their connections with future industry needs.

Dr. Lee Chuan, Chancellor of the MCU Global Education System, said that the partnership brings together NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute (DLI) courses, advanced AI computing resources and interdisciplinary teaching resources to help students integrate AI applications with their areas of expertise. In the AI era, MCU is actively promoting interdisciplinary learning in both directions: strengthening AI application skills among students in the humanities and social sciences, while encouraging science and engineering students to develop critical thinking grounded in the humanities, information evaluation skills and communication abilities. These efforts aim to enhance students’ competitiveness in the future workplace.

MCU’s Taipei campus is located near Beitou Shilin Technology Park. As AI industries and educational resources increasingly converge in the area, the university will have further opportunities to connect industry partnerships, professional development for working adults and AI education in primary and secondary schools. The NVIDIA AI Lab is poised to become an important link between higher education and the park’s AI industry ecosystem.
