MCU has soared in the Webometrics Rankings of World Universities from 724th to 586th in July of 2014, now 131th in Asia/Pacific, 13th in Taiwan and Top 2 among private universities in Taiwan. This is the first time that MCU’s overall worldwide ranking has been in the Top 600. Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Wang, noted that the ranking is published by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) based on a composite indicator that takes into account both the volume of the Web contents (number of web pages and files) and the visibility and impact of these web publications according to the number of external inlinks (site citations) they received. The main worldwide list of 12000 universities is built from a catalogue of 11,997 institutions from 223 countries, which has the most institutions among the international ranking systems. MCU’s ranking of these four indicators are as following: Top 419 in Impact (among web publications according to the number of external inlinks they received) and top 1 among private universities in Taiwan; Top 447 in Presence (a reliable indicator of the global performance and prestige of the universities); Top 379 in Openness (academic research documents published from 2008 to 2012); Top 1829 in Excellence (volume of published papers and volume of being referenced from 2003 to 2010). In order to promote the visibility and vigor of MCU’s website, Dr. Wang suggests enhancing collaboration with off-campus and international units to promote the quantity of inlinks by off-campus units. In the meantime, MCU must extend and make public its teaching resources via online teaching platform.
