【891】8 gold medals for MCU at National Intercollegiate Athletic Games

by Sue Lin Tan The 2014 National Intercollegiate Athletic Games just ended on May 21st at National Yunlin University of Science and Technology. The athletes representing MCU had great performances, coming home with a total of 8 gold medals, 6 silver medals and 7 bronze medals. MCU ranked 11th among 163 universities and colleges. Loh Hui Xin, a Malaysian student, won 4 gold medals in Gymnastic events, including 5 individual events and also the team event. She is a former Malaysian team gymnast and her standard remains good under the training of Coach Ho for the MCU team. Since 1983, this was the 24th time that MCU got a gold medal in Gymnastics events. Although the competition took place during a period of bad weather, MCU teams enjoyed good performance. The Cricket team also had an excellent performance, earning 2 gold medals and 1 bronze in the women’s cricket event. Also, the Fencing team grabbed 2 golds, 2 silvers and 1 bronze in this competition. The Swimming team also performance well and got 1 silver and 3 bronzes in this event. Other fine individual performances brought honors to Ming Chuan. Guang-Yun Li won 1 silver and 2 bronzes in Taekwando events for her last participation in the intercollegiate athletic games. In the track and field event, Jing-Yue Chiu got sixth place in the Discus throw. International College’s Andela (IBM 4) took sixth in individual Fencing. Also, Sue (JMC 3) got sixth place in the women’s Badminton singles. MCU boasts great performance in both academics and athletics and is grateful for the students who have won medals and bring honor to the school.
