【828Enews】5月英文報/A Significant Step Towards Ming Chuan Campus Establishment In United States

Led by Dr. Chuan Lee, Ming Chuan University’s pioneer project of establishing a campus the in United States is moving towards a major turning point. Ming Chuan will no longer be confined to the island of Taiwan or Kinmen but it will deliver its excellent quality of education internationally. Following the U.S accreditation in November 2010, MCU began efforts to set up a U.S. branch campus. The State Government of Michigan approved the application of Ming Chuan to establish operations there on April 19 this year. President Lee, Vice President for Administrative Affairs Dr. Yien, Teacher Education Center Director Dr. Shen and Special Assistant of President’s Office Lee Zhi-Yu visited Michigan education officials Mike Beamish and Jim Farhat, of the Michigan Postsecondary Education Division, on May 17. They proceeded to visit Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) President, Dr. Eric Gilbertson, during May 17-18 to confirm the use of SVSU’s dormitory and school grounds, as well as an area for the initial MCU campus set up. Moreover, they discussed the courses for the new semester during their visit. On April 23 this year, SVSU’s school news publication The Valley Guard published an article, using the compelling headline “Studying Abroad at Home” to introduce the SVSU-MCU cooperative programs. “We’re looking forward to working with our sister University, Ming Chuan…,” President Eric Gilbertson mentioned in the article. This summer, Ming Chuan will hold courses at SVSU: Startup Business Chinese, Introduction to Chinese Culture, Introduction to American Culture and Literature Comprehension. Some are designed for the 45 MCU students traveling to Michigan with a delegation of instructors; others are designed especially for SVSU students, while each is open for mixing between all interested students. This year’s program is led by Teaching Chinese as a Second Language Department Director Yang, Xiao-Ting (Siena), together with English Language Center’s Ke, Bo-Ruei, and Applied English Department’s faculty Pei, Shih-Tai and secretary Hu, Kuo-Chieh (Gloria). Both MCU and SVSU students can take these courses for credit.
