MCU JMC Students Gather for Graduation Project Orientation

At 12 p.m. on October 23, 2025, students from the Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC) Department at Ming Chuan University attended an important Graduation Project Orientation led by Professor Bruno Giusto. The session provided third-year students with essential guidance on preparing for both their internships and upcoming graduation projects.

Professor Giusto began by emphasizing the importance of completing the internship before entering the fourth year, reminding students that managing both the internship and the graduation project simultaneously can be overwhelming. He strongly advised students to ensure that their internships are relevant to the JMC field, warning that some previous students had wasted time on unrelated work. “Make sure the company provides a clear list of what you will learn and do before you start,” he stressed.

He then introduced the NSTC Workshop, an opportunity offered by Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council, and encouraged students to apply for research funding. “If you are selected, it’s prestigious and a great addition to your CV,” said Professor Giusto. He further explained that students approved for NSTC projects could use their research as their final graduation project — the only situation in which a student is permitted to work individually.

Moving on to the graduation project, Professor Giusto outlined the two main options available:
1. Thesis writing, which requires strong English proficiency and analytical skills.
2. Production projects, which may include documentaries, magazines, short films, or music videos.

He reminded students that most graduation projects must be completed in teams of two to four members due to limited faculty supervision. “Working with others can be challenging, but you have no choice — collaboration is part of the learning process,” he remarked.

Professor Giusto also encouraged students to start planning early and approach potential advisors with a well-prepared proposal. “The first ones who come with a good idea and strong motivation get the chance,” he reminded.

He further highlighted that each faculty member can supervise only 8–10 students, urging everyone to finalize their project topics and team members by May or June 2026, before the summer break.

To conclude the meeting, Professor Giusto stayed behind to personally answer students’ questions regarding project ideas, team formation, and topic relevance. His message to all JMC students was clear: Start early, plan wisely, and choose the project that best fits your skills.

The Graduation Project Orientation marks the beginning of an exciting academic journey for JMC’s third-year students as they prepare to showcase their creativity, teamwork, and communication skills in their final year at MCU.
