Ming Chuan University Co-hosts ISMDS 2025: Ushering in a New Era of Medical Decision Science in Asia
Taipei, Taiwan — The 3rd International Symposium on Medical Decision Science (ISMDS 2025) was held on October 11 at Ming Chuan University’s Jihe Campus, bringing together over 150 experts, industry leaders, and young scholars from 12 countries to mark a new milestone in the advancement of medical decision science in Asia.
Building on the successes of the symposiums in Mongolia (2023) and Thailand (2024), ISMDS 2025 was co-hosted for the first time by the Medical Decision Science Association of Taiwan (MDSAT) and Ming Chuan University. Centered on the theme “The Ubiquitous Uniqueness of Medical Decision Making,” the symposium explored frontier topics including smart healthcare, health economics, shared decision-making, digital health, and public health policy. Seventeen distinguished speakers from the U.S., Japan, Korea, Türkiye, Thailand, Mongolia, Australia, Israel, India, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Taiwan shared their latest research, fostering collaboration among academia, government, and industry.
The student research exhibition drew attention from both local and international participants, where students presented innovative studies that showcased new perspectives in medical decision science and encouraged cross-border academic exchange.
A major highlight of the symposium was the inauguration of the Society for Asia Medical Decision Science (SAMDS), jointly unveiled by representatives from Taiwan, Mongolia, Japan, Türkiye, Thailand, New Zealand, and Australia. Founding President Prof. Chi-Chang Chang outlined three core visions: building a platform where knowledge converges with innovation, deepening international collaboration, and creating a culturally diverse “Third Space” for mutual inspiration. He emphasized that SAMDS represents a transnational family where members grow together and contribute to global well-being—the essence of the Third Space philosophy.
Coinciding with Taiwan’s National Day, the symposium also welcomed guests from the Turkish Trade Office in Taipei, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Department of West Asian and African Affairs, and the Chinese Institute of Industrial Engineers, demonstrating Taiwan’s strength in healthcare technology and international academic exchange. President Lee Chuan of Ming Chuan University reaffirmed the university’s commitment to “localizing global knowledge and globalizing local knowledge” to enhance professional exchange and deepen global partnerships.
Since its founding in 2022, MDSAT has actively promoted international cooperation in AI-based healthcare, chronic disease prediction, and health data governance. Through multiple memoranda of understanding, the association continues to expand its global network and develop data-driven decision tools, reinforcing Taiwan’s leadership in medical decision science in the Asia-Pacific region. The success of ISMDS 2025 and the founding of SAMDS mark a new era of diversity, innovation, and collaboration in Asia’s medical decision science.
