by Miya Cheng MCU’s media education has made a name for itself. On November 19, a delegation of the “2012 Workshop on Taiwan’s Media Development” organized by the TaiwanICDF visited MCU’s School of Communication to see the educational scheme and facilities applied to foster new generation media talents. The “Workshop on Taiwan’s Media Development” is held annually to promote Taiwan’s media worldwide. Joined by people around the globe, discussions center on new media tools available in this new era and in what way has the industry become a key driver of social diversification in the recent years. The participants undertake specific case studies as well as make site visits to relevant Taiwanese government institutions and outstanding media enterprises. MCU is honored to be one of the visit sites. The 2012 delegation, led by TaiwanICDF Project Manager, Cathy Chen, consisted of 29 media professionals, NGO members and government officials. They came from 28 countries throughout Asia, Africa, Europe, South America, North America, the Caribbean and the Pacific. The workshop was held in the multimedia conference room . Dr. Max Liu, Dean of International College, hosted the welcome ceremony. Following, introductory videos of MCU and the School of Communication were presented to give participants a clear picture of how MCU’s media education combines theory and practice. Next, Professor Walter Wang of Journalism and Mass Communication, International College gave a keynote speech “Will This Be on the Exam? Things beyond book learning” addressing the positive attitudes and methods for individuals to become successful in both work and life. The speech was very inspiring and applauded by the guests. Last, a campus tour was arranged to introduce MCU media sites: the Ming Chuan Broadcasting Station, Media News on Line (MOL) and Virtual Studio. The workshop finished with fruitful outcomes. MCU is very proud to contribute in the meaningful event and help to promote Taiwan’s media and outstanding higher education worldwide.
