【817Enews】HIV/AIDS Call to Action Donates NT$60,000 over 120 gifts to AIDS shelter

The Ming Chuan University Call to Action Campaign organizers, on December 24, 2011, presented over 120 gifts to the kids at Harmony Home, an HIV/AIDS shelter which cares for people living with and children affected by HIV/AIDS. In addition, the campaign organizers donated a check of NT$50,000, and NT$10,000 in red envelopes to the shelter. The monies were raised during the Call to Action Campaign and also included donations from students, embassies and the Africa Taiwan Economic Forum, as well as monies from the sale of campaign paraphernalia. All these were raised last semester during the HIV/AIDS campaign which was geared towards giving greater attention to HIV/AIDS in Taiwan. The campaign’s public relations specialist Shervon Alfred dubbed the semester-long campaign a success based on reviews from students, MCU staff and administration, as well as embassy officials, and an internal assessment by the organizers. He said they were quite pleased with the overwhelming show of support and the donations made to Harmony Home, and thanked all those who supported the campaign in one way or the other. “This campaign could not have been successful without the support of every single person who assisted in one way or the other,” said Alfred. “We are very pleased with what we have achieved. And although it was a lot of hard work, in the end it was well worth it.” Alfred said he hoped, in the future, Ming Chuan University students would embark on organizing campaigns or activities of such a nature because it shows that we care about each other, and that the key to the solutions of many of the problems we face today are each and every one of us working together towards a common cause.
