【791】MCU Founder’s Memorial Hall Grand Opening

by David Lin On March 19th, Ming Chuan University’s Taipei campus opened the doors of the newly created Founder Pao Teh-Ming Memorial Hall. The hall was established to commemorate and celebrate the spirit and life achievements of the University’s founder, Dr. Pao Teh-Ming (包德明). Correspondingly, the grand opening of the hall was held on the same day as MCU’s 54th anniversary celebration. MCU president, Dr. Lee Chuan, invites students and faculty to the memorial to learn about the spirit of Ming Chuan that Dr. Pao embodied and her noteworthy contributions to education and society in Taiwan. Moreover, President Lee hopes that the displays can motivate and inspire students to live their lives according to Dr. Pao’s message to MCU students: Overcome all difficulties and obstacles through dedication and hard work. Ms. Jeanne Lee, the designer of the memorial, stated that hall is symbolic of how far Founder Pao‘s dedication to higher education has extended since the establishment of the institution 54 years ago. The hall also displays Founder Pao’s constant emphasis on globalized education, which has now resulted in the recently acclaimed U.S. accreditation by the Middle State Commission of Higher Education. Located on the second floor of the Administrative Building, where Dr. Pao’s office was located, the memorial hall features her dedication to the development of Ming Chuan, her leadership in sports and the many honors she was awarded. Several personal belongings, including a timeline of her “Qipao” (旗袍) collection, her original work desk, and a plaque awarded by president Ma Ying-Jeou (馬英九) are also on display. Founder Pao was a very attentive individual. Her great awareness of global trends was also reflected in her choice of attire. True to her Chinese origins, she was always seen in qipao, but each one reflected her international thinking, with Western and Eastern designs and patterns complementing one another in each tailor-made creation. Everyone is welcome to stop by and learn more about our founder and Ming Chuan University’s history. Founder Pao Teh-Ming Memorial Hall is open free of charge from Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm.
