【880Enews】MCU top in nation for overseas student enrollment

by Sandra Chen According to the statistics announced by Ministry of Education, MCU is on top for three student categories among all universities in Taiwan. This semester, MCU has 754 degree seeking international students, 276 undergraduate students from Mainland China and 434 Overseas Youth Vocational Training School students including the 4th class in Kinmen Branch. Under President Lee’s educational philosophy of internationalization, MCU’s top ranking in these 3 categories proves that we are a globalized campus in deed as well as in name. International Education and Exchange Division indicates that the number of international students in 2013-14AY represents 23% growth from last year. The 754 international students from 61 countries far exceeds the 639 students at National Cheng Kung University and 630 students at National Taiwan University. Additionally, MCU was commissioned by Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) in 2005 to offer Overseas Youth Vocational Training School (OYVTS) classes. In response to OCAC’s educational policies for the offshore islands, the 4th Baking & Pastry Arts class of OYVTS is commissioned to be offered at Kinmen Branch. Classes begin on March 4 (Tuesday). The establishment of Kinmen OYVTS classes not only provides diverse student resources in Kinmen, but also allows MCU to have the top overseas youth enrollment in the nation. President Lee notes that the promotion of Ming Chuan’s internationalized education policy has not only led to MCU being the first U.S.-accredited university in Asia, but also to become a university that is officially approved to establish a location in the United States by governments in Taiwan and Michigan. Moreover, the outstanding learning environment and student guidance service offered by MCU are highly recognized by international students. All these factors contribute to the outstanding achievement in international student recruitment.
