by Sue Lin Tan With the first semester just starting, every year MCU will organize the Freshman Cup for new students to participate in. Anyone who is interested to join the competition can go through their class leader or ICES to register prior to the deadline of September 27. First-year students who participate in this event will be representing their own departments in competition with other departments volleyball, basketball and swimming. The competitions will start from October 1 and run until November 19. Each champion representing Taipei Campus will compete with the Taoyuan Campus champion teams. The final volleyball battle between the two campuses is on Friday November 15 at 12.10pm on Taoyuan Campus, while the basketball event will be held on Taipei Campus Tuesday November 19 at 12.10pm. The swimming event schedule will be posted later. Everyone is welcome to go to support the first-year students during the competition. In other athletic news, each student needs to pass the minimum physical fitness test set by the university. The test includes balance, stability, flexibility, power and muscular endurance. This is an important test as it is one of the requirements for graduation. Besides, MCU has great performance in sports events. The university is grateful for the students who have won medals and brought honor to the school. If you are a potential athlete and interested in specific sports, you are welcome to contact the school team coaches personally.
